
Bighorn sheep are abundant at the Island and often seen on day treks into the park. Shafer Trail, a steep, precipitous cattle trail provides four-wheel drive access all the way down to the Colorado River, 1,500 feet below. Islands in the Sky
The Island in the Sky gives you a completely different taste of the wild canyonlands landscapes. Here you stand on top of a lofty mesa and look down into the tangle of canyons through which flow the Green and Colorado rivers. The interior of the park can be explored via a 112-mile four-wheel drive loop that winds through the vast backcountry.
