Today, only the most adventurous visitors dare to get out of their cars and walk into the mysterious
grand canyons landscape. Something remarkable happens to those who choose to immerse themselves in the desert: they fall in love. They alone hear the songs of the ancient Anasazi Indians as they echo through the canyons. They see the turquoise necklace of the collared lizard and notice the tracks of pinion mice in the sand. They see a hundred different hues of purple and red in the rock every time a cloud moves across the sun. And they feel blessed to be alive.
Whether you are 8 or 80, a family or flying solo on your journey into
the backroads of canyonlands, you can become this distinctive, inspired traveler. Tag-A-Long Expeditions removes the boundaries that keep you apart from your dream of experiencing the real
grandeur of canyonlands. We take you into the desert
over jeep trails. We promise to return you to civilization spellbound and touched by the unique beauty that is Canyonlands.

Needles District
In the Needles area of the park youll discover an amazing desert landscape of stacked boulders, soaring spires and dramatic color. Intriguing canyons meander for miles
of backroads throughout the park and entice hikers into the backcountry for days at a time. The rock layers exhibit colorful bands that seem to change hue with each movement of the sun. Narrow cracks between spires of rock provide challenge and excitement for hikers as they navigate the trails. And hidden in the canyons of the Needles is one of the largest concentrations of Native American rock art and ruins in the entire Southwest. |
Maze District
The Maze is the most primitive and least explored of this already remote park. So isolated is this area that Butch Cassidy and his Wild Bunch used it for his hideout. The Maze is also home to a splendid collection of ancient Anasazi Indian rock art panels and ruins. Only hikers and experienced four-wheelers
on these difficult backroads have the good fortune to see these spectacular archaeological wonders. |

Island in the Sky
The Island in the Sky gives you a completely different taste of the wild canyonlands landscapes. Here you stand on top of a lofty mesa and look down into the tangle of canyons through which flow the Green and Colorado rivers. The interior of the park can be explored via a 112-mile four-wheel drive loop that winds through the vast backcountry. Bighorn sheep are abundant at the Island and often seen on day treks into the park. Shafer Trail, a steep, precipitous cattle trail provides four-wheel drive access all the way down to the Colorado River, 2000 feet below. Tag-A-Long Expeditions has designed a careful loop to open up some kept secrets in this
backroads region. |
